Conservation and restoration of paintings at ESA Saint-Luc in Liège: 5 years

Internships

In studios:

  • Atelier L’Oubradou in Lyon.

  • Olivier Nouaille’s studio — transparent lining — in Paris.

  • Participation in a workshop in Porto on 14 lining techniques and their reversibility, in collaboration with the University of Porto, Portugal, and the University of Turin, Italy.

In an institution:

  • Museology internship at the AfricaMuseum in Tervuren. A collection of 2,000 contemporary African paintings became the subject of my thesis — an in-depth two-year research project.

During my studies, I took part in a team project involving around ten people for the restoration of a 25 m² painting, “La prise de Calais par le Duc de Guise”, created by Villeneuve in 1852 — a copy of the original work by the renowned François-Édouard Picot, located at the Palace of Versailles. This restoration project lasted 3 years and involved the complete restoration of the artwork, which had been found in fragments in the cellars of the Beaux-Arts de Calais.

A Large-Scale Project between Calais and Versailles

Restoration of Historical Monuments

I worked for 2 years for Altritempi-Monument Group, a Flemish company specialising in the restoration of historical monuments. I took part in many projects, including the restoration of several churches in Flanders — restoration of pilasters, wall paintings, ceilings, altars, sculptures, large-format paintings, and more — as well as the restoration of the gilding in the prestigious “Hall of Mirrors” of the Brussels Parliament.

I had the opportunity to present my thesis during the “Conserving Canvas” symposium, organised by The Getty Foundation at the renowned Yale University Art Gallery in Connecticut, United States, in October 2019.

I then spent a year in Canada, where I worked in studios at Maryse Bonaldo — Montreal, Quebec — and Toronto Art Restoration Inc — Toronto, Ontario.

I subsequently wrote an article for the renowned Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles.
