Procedure

Initial contact

The studio is located in Brussels, but the address is not listed here because the safety of your artworks is my priority. This confidential information will be shared by email after an initial exchange. To contact me, please call or send me an email with your request, including supporting photographs if possible

  • Discussion about the artwork and the client’s expectations

  • Visual examination of the artwork

  • Detailed photographs of the artwork

  • Examination of the artwork under ultraviolet light and with a microscope — photographs

  • Cleaning and varnish removal tests

  • Preparation of a condition report for the artwork in order to provide a quotation

2.
Meeting at the studio or on site*

*if transport is not possible

Budgeting

Two options are available — examples of both options can be provided on request:

Option A: simple quotation without a condition report — free of charge

Option B: preparation of a condition report with photographs and a quotation — budget on request:

  • Presentation of the artwork — description of the different materials

  • Visual observations — photographs

  • Observations in raking light — photographs

  • Microscope observations — photographs

  • Observations under ultraviolet light — photographs

  • X-ray or infrared analyses available on request — carried out in collaboration with an institution

  • Cleaning test and varnish removal test

  • Analysis of the observations and preparation of a detailed condition report describing the deterioration

Proposal of a quotation for the treatment of the artwork, with or without options depending on the case.

4.
Client approval

The option has been selected and the quotation approved. A treatment report with photographs can also be prepared — budget on request; this option must be approved before the restoration begins.

Insurance

Insurance subscription

6.
Start of the artwork restoration

The treatment can begin.
